Succession Style Analysis
Spoilers ahead!
With the recent Succession finale, I thought I would cover the style analysis of the different characters. Throughout the corporate offices and black and grey suits. There are underlying symbols that bleed through the characters’ personalities. If you are unsure about the hit Max show"Succession" you might have been living under a rock. “Succession” is a hit television drama series that revolves around the dysfunctional Roy family, led by media mogul Logan Roy. The show features a diverse range of characters, each with their own unique style and mannerisms. Here's a style analysis of some prominent characters from "Succession"
Logan Roy
As the patriarch and CEO of Waystar Royco, Logan embodies power and authority. His style is understated yet sophisticated, reflecting his position of control. Logan doesn’t seek the attention of others through materials. He simply knows he is the alpha and doesn’t need to impress.
Kendall Roy
Kendall's style evolves throughout the series. In the first season, he dresses to impress, he knows that he is in a position of weakness. And needs to impress the others around him seeking constant validation throughout any outlet possible. However, as he gains more power and status, his wardrobe reflects his desire to establish himself as a serious contender within the company. While in the third season, Kendall betrays his father. He starts to change from the regular day-to-day suits to flashy outfits that symbolize his break in character.
Shiv Roy:
Shiv’s style evolution reflects her ambition and her attempts to assert herself within the family and the company. Throughout the story, her constant need for her validation grows. In the first season, her outfits are more relaxed, and with longer flowing hair. This is interesting cause that’s the time wear she wasn’t under her fathers control. While in the coming seasons, her hair is cut, and she often disguises herself in a blazer. Trying to make up and fit in with her competition. Her color palette also grows too. From silky blushes, to neutral grey and black.
Roman Roy
Roman’s style speaks to his character and what time of person he is. In the series Roman hardly ever wears a tailored suit. He is mostly seen wearing sporty wear, or casual unbuttoned tops. His color palette compared to his siblings is different. He wears brighter more vibrant colors while his relatives wear neutral tones.
Tom Wambsgans
Tom’s style is conservative and classy. His style really symbolizes his need to fit in with the upper class Roy members. Although wardrobe is the least of his worries, it says a lot about the character. Something interesting during the series was how he gave Logan a watch in the first episode. This shows his wrongfully painted picture of the super-rich. Thinking that they usually look for materials when truly its the opposite. It foreshadows Tom’s character.
